Generally speaking, in the classic games (TR’s 1 – 5), corners that point northeast have corner bugs, southwest corners don’t, and the other two directions show turning corner bugs. Judging by what some of the square columns show, the front gate is on the east side of the mansion.

ASSAULT COURSE: Lara can reach the top of the tall structure. From the columns halfway up, all four corners permit normal corner bugs; presumably, the drop-off forces her into the wall.

Lara can catch the edge of the bathroom window and pull up through it (sing it, Sir Paul!). She can jump back out through the corner of the window and land on the column by the tall structure. Known for years.

As Lara exits the swimming tunnel, the corner on the right allows a swim corner bug. She appears on top and slides off.

Lara can easily bug to the top of the structure that begins the zipline. On corners near the water, she drops to the inclined pieces and slides off into the water. On the other side, she stays on top.

From the column near the house Lara can take a running jump and land on the balcony with a right turn just before she lands. The other column lets Lara jump onto the wall, as does the structure at the end of the zipline.

THE MANSION EXTERIOR: The corner by the zipline puts Lara on the roof with a turning corner bug.

Where the corners of the mansion and the brick wall with the doorway meet, crack bugs work in both directions. If Lara stands at the crack and rolls, she appears on top of the mansion or the wall; turn slightly away from the desired landing point and roll. Discovered by me?

LONGEST RUNNING JUMP: Tests from the low wall near the doorway show that hopping back, then taking 3 pairs of sidesteps to one side then the other, plus one more sidestep, result in a running jump that lands Lara about 3.5 inches farther than just jumping back and taking a running jump. To make the comparison of these two jumps easier, I unchecked “Bilinear Filtering” in Setup, which makes the little background squares hard-edged. Discovered by me?

The left corner of the doorway has some odd turning corner bugs. Inside the doorway, Lara is stuck under the ceiling; outside, she bugs high into the sky and falls fatally. The corners on the other side allow her to run onto the wall at the left, and to corner-bug up on the right.

All the corners along the front of the mansion have corner bugs that put Lara on the roof. At southeast-pointing corners, they’re of the turning variety. Lara can do a safety-drop bug to the area in front of the window over the door, but it costs about two-thirds of her health.

The edge of the open door traps Lara in the wall; a column of Laras quickly forms. I escaped by trying a series of small turns, followed by jumps in all four directions. But no bugs work on the edge from inside the mansion.

The corner of the swimming pool annex by the maze allows corner bugs. To get ON the hedge, do a corner bug on the right face while holding Action. When the bug works, Lara will jump off the roof and grab the hedge.

Jump from the hedge to the pool annex. The mansion corner near the corner of the hedge shows a corner bug to the roof.

The hedge corner is bugless.

Most of the corners inside the maze have a corner bug or the turning type. An important one is next to the tunnel to the pushbutton that opens the cellar door. As you return, bug onto the hedge and jump along the tops to escape the maze quickly.

ON THE ROOF: The “chimney” that looks down on the pool annex is the highest point of the mansion. It has no exit for smoke, but we’re not supposed to be able to see it from above.

In the middle of the roof is this odd stepped area. Doesn’t it collect rainfall?

The chimney for the bedroom is slightly lower than the other. Is that moss on the brick structure? From corner bug considerations, I believe that’s the east side. You can drop to the balcony with 10% damage.

To return to the ground with no damage, jump or dive into the water from here. You have room for one-and-a-half rolls during a dive.

THE FRONT GATE: Get on the gate with turning bugs from either of the northwest-pointing corners; or get on the wall via the maze hedge, the brick wall that runs from the mansion corner, or by jumping from the assault course structures. Drop to the area outside the front gate with small damage.

You can get on a few mounds with trees, and discover that the “road” is an illusion. Lara can return inside with bugs at both gate corners.

You can’t bug onto the fish statue, or jump onto it from the mansion or the outer wall.

ENTRANCE HALL: The left corner of the large front door alcove allows no bugs. The right corner permits turning corner bugs, but Lara falls if the Forward key is released, and sometimes if Action or Roll is added. This is fatal on the right face.

Flicker motion works at most of the window corners. The outer corners permit flicker motion to move Lara to the walkways, where Roll drops her onto both.

The corners by the grandfather clock have turn-in flicker motion, but only on the faces inside the two passages.

At the other end of the passages, only the northwest corners have bugs and flicker motion.

BALLROOM: The window alcoves have flicker motion on the outside faces and turn-in flicker motion inside the alcoves.

SWIMMING POOL: The passage to the pool has bugs at most corners. Three of the faces inside the passage have turn-in flicker motion.

The columns by the pool have the standard pattern of NE-corner bug, SE-no bug, others-turning corner bug. The alcove corners follow the same pattern.

KITCHEN: Most of the corners in the kitchen and at the two entrances have various corner bugs, but nothing special occurs.

In the freezer, jumping up into the hanging joints of meat causes Lara to teleport to the midpoint of the counter. And I’m sure we all know about trapping poor old Winston in the freezer.

Lara can jump out the corners of the kitchen windows by running against them and turning while jumping. Long known.

Outside the open kitchen door, a turn-in corner bug works at the door hinge, but Lara falls at once. However, at the right side of the door, a turning bug puts Lara in the bedroom! And this happens at a southwest-pointing corner. Lesson: there are exceptions to the “rules”. Inside the doorway, turn-in flicker motion works at the same corner. Discovered by me?

Lara easily runs through fence bugs in the railings along the stairs and walkways. At the rail in front of the music room, stand 30 – 40 degrees to the right of the divisions between segments; otherwise, approach from the left. Lara appears to catch her upper body on the way though and gives a loud “unh!”

BEDROOM AND BATHROOM: Most of the corners have bugs and flicker motion, but nothing remarkable occurs.

Like the kitchen windows, Lara runs in place at the bathroom window and the windows by the balcony. At all four corners, she can again get outdoors by running, jumping and turning back and forth. She falls to the ground, but it’s not far enough for health loss.

THE FABULOUS BUTLER BUG: Use Winston to get to the balcony! Walk to the window. Let Winston come to a stop near you. Walk away, staying near the glass. Winston is likely to walk through the glass, to stand in front of you on the balcony! Step back to lure him forward.

As he re-enters, run against him and the glass at the same time, then jump or run forward. Keep moving forward and changing angles.

Lara should pass through the glass. The trick is to avoid jumping off the balcony.

Lara can pass back through the window the same way, but it’s easier to jump back in at the left corner. The bug also works at the bathroom window. Discovered by Tihocan9 at tombraiderforums.

BASEMENT TREASURE ROOM: Several corners support bugs and flicker motion, but nothing useful results.

The outside face of the corner at the door allows a turn-in corner bug to raise Lara to the stairs. Too bad it’s faster just to run up the stairs.

ATTIC: Some corner bugs and flicker motion, but nothing that leads to anything.

MUSIC ROOM: The short entrance passage has turn-in flicker motion inside the passage, and the inner corner has turning corner bugs.

There are turning bugs by the harp. I wish I could get Lara to strum it.

The window alcoves have flicker motion on the right corner inside the alcove, flicker motion at the left corner. And you get a glimpse of the large idols in the hedge maze.

The stairs to the library have turning corner bugs at the right corner and flicker motion at the left.

LIBRARY: The entrance has flicker motion inside the passage.

The outer right corner of the fireplace has turning corner bugs. The other three corners exhibit flicker motion.

The right corner of the window alcove has turning bugs and the left shows flicker motion.

Only the right corner of the bookcase that projects into the room has bugs, of the turning variety.
